When The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy was in cinema a couple of years ago, I found all my Korean friends who had seen it invariably voted as the funniest bit the scene about the Volgon bureaucrats, known as masters of paperwork, and Arthur’s line “I’ll handle this. I’m British. I know how to queue”.
I was at the Home Office a couple of days ago to renew my visa, and naturally recalled the film. Don’t get me wrong. I am not complaining nor being sarcastic. I finished reading 5 journal articles in the waiting area. It was the most productive day in a very long time. I should be able to work under normal circumstances too, really. Like at desk, for example.
